From Burnout to £125K: What The Soul Space Teaches Us About Building a Scalable Marketing System
Growth doesn’t always come from doing more.
For many small businesses, marketing becomes another task to manage alongside delivering services, looking after customers and running the day-to-day operation. Content is created when there is time, campaigns are launched when something needs promoting and results can feel unpredictable.
The challenge is rarely a lack of effort. More often, it is a lack of structure.
That was the situation Gather Social encountered when we began working with The Soul Space. The business had an engaged audience and a strong community around its yoga and retreat offering. However, growth relied heavily on the time and energy of a small team.
Over four years, The Soul Space grew from hosting one retreat per year to running multiple UK and international retreats, with annual revenue exceeding £125,000. Website traffic increased by more than 400%, while marketing activity generated 1.79 million impressions and more than 242,000 video views.
The results came from building a marketing system that connected strategy, content, distribution and measurement.
Think: Start with the strategy
The Soul Space’s offers were restructured into a clearer value ladder:
- Day retreats: An accessible first experience.
- UK overnight retreats: A deeper experience that helped build loyalty.
- International retreats: A premium, higher-value offer.
This gave customers different ways to engage with the brand and created a natural path from a first experience to a premium retreat.
Higher-ticket retreats were promoted further in advance, while booking multiple dates upfront helped create a more repeatable event model.
The lesson is simple: content performs better when it supports a clear commercial structure.
Make: Create content with a purpose
Rather than posting simply to keep the feed active, content was designed to move people from awareness to interest and eventually to booking.
Video became central to this approach. The focus wasn’t on highly polished brand films. It was on showing real experiences and helping potential customers understand what it felt like to be part of The Soul Space community.
Capturing the atmosphere, people, and value of the retreats helped the content feel genuine. Different creative variations were tested to understand what resonated with the audience and encouraged meaningful engagement.
Market: Reach the right people
Creating strong content is only one part of marketing.
Meta advertising helped The Soul Space reach new audiences and reconnect with people who had already shown interest. Cold audiences were introduced to the brand through video, while engagement data helped build warmer audiences for remarketing.
This created a clear journey:
Video → Awareness → Engagement → Remarketing → Booking
The approach connected social content with commercial outcomes and ran on a consistent budget of £500 per month.
Measure: Use results to improve
The Soul Space tracked video views, audience growth, website traffic, event page visits and conversion timelines. This helped identify what was working and where the customer journey could be improved.
The results included:
- More than £125,000 in annual revenue.
- Growth from one retreat per year to multiple UK and international retreats.
- Website traffic increasing by more than 400%.
- 1.79 million impressions.
- More than 242,000 video views.
- More than 28,000 link clicks.
